The following article details our own analysis of the next 5 vendors in our article series: Volusion; Mercantec; MerchandiZer; ShopSite and GoEmerchant.

6.     Volusion – http://www.volusion.com


Established in 1999, the company offers an effective shopping cart platform to help their online business grow successfully. Volusion has compiled all the necessary tools, and search engine friendly solutions needed for any business to sell products online.


  • Compared to other shopping cart solutions, Volusion is completely SEO optimized.
  • A large number of free templates, which are easy to use and very flexible.
  • Does not provide International language support.
  • Limited functionality on a number of basic components.
  • Does not provide barcode functionality similar to a number of other competitive products.
  • Customer support is not very responsive to complex question and problems.

7.     Mercantec SoftCart – http://www.mercantec.com


Mercantec, Inc.  has been providing  ecommerce solutions and services to small and medium-sized businesses worldwide since 1995. The company was one of the first web storefronts, launching SoftCart as the first commercial Internet shopping cart system.


  • Can be integrated with any existing website.
  • Provides a free version with limited functionality.
  • Excellent support and customer service in comparison to similar products.
  • Does not provide superior security features in comparison to similar products.
  • Automated SEO feature is not included in any of its versions.
  • No sales reports are available and it does not provide the ability to utilize any affiliate programs.

8.     MerchandiZer (HipHip Software) – http://www.merchandizer.com


MerchandiZer is online shopping cart software that allows the creation of an online catalog and storefront. Tools include: catalog building, accounting, promotions, sales and marketing reports, and online transactions.


  • Provides excellent sales and affiliate reports.
  • Includes a number of tools to monitor visitors for analyzing website traffic.
  • Excellent customization abilities, to provide the exact look and feel desired.
  • There is a 500 product limit cap, limiting the number of products one can sell online.
  • Does not offer live chat, wiki, or community forum.

9.     ShopSite – www.shopsite.com


ShopSite has been providing merchants with both a hosted shopping cart solution and a licensed option, since 1996. Based out of Utah, the company provides an online catalog and shopping cart system that is extremely powerful and easy to learn.



  • Provides a large number of pre-designed templates.
  • Excellent customer service support, 24/7/365.
  • Can be loaded on your own server, or external hosting provider.
  • Limited amount of customization with the program.
  • The application is not very search engine friendly.
  • Provides limited integration with social media.

10.  GoEmerchant – https://www.goemerchant.com


Founded in 1995, GoEmerchant is a small merchant services company based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.  GoEmerchant includes ecommerce functionality, mail/telephone commerce, high volume offline credit card processing and retail commerce.


  • Provides an excellent affiliate program; allows for the sale of products on other sites.
  • Includes unlimited bandwidth and website storage.
  • Very inexpensive, in comparison to other similar products, and is easy to setup.
  • Applications are processed within 24hours, with a 99% approval rate.
  • Pre-configured web store setup is not as flexible in comparison to other similar products.
  • Unable to accept physical checks, or C.O.D. (Collect on Delivery) as a payment form.
