Time Zones and DST support

As of October 16, 2014, Monitis supports more accurate time zones along with the automatic Daylight Saving Time (DST) adjustment feature.

To enable DST adjustment feature in your Monitis account you must first select your exact time zone from the list of the now available more accurate time zones.

Follow the instructions below to set up more accurate time zones and DST adjustment feature in your Monitis account.

Existing Users

If you are already a Monitis user, following Monitis migration to more accurate time zones and DST adjustment feature when you first login to your account the Adjust Time Zones window will pop over.Adjust_Time_Zones_New

The window shows the list of all time zones that you currently have set in your Monitis account under Profile, Contacts, Alert Rules and Maintenance. Notice that the currently set time zones are not very accurate as they lack the city name.

To enable DST in your Monitis account, first of all for each old time zone you must select a new one from the list of more accurate time zones. Notice that the new more accurate time zones contain also city names.

If you haven’t set any time zone manually in your account before, you will see only the default time zone set for your account in the list of your current time zone in the Adjust Time Zones window.

The default time zone is taken by the system from your browser when you first sign-up to Monitis and set in:

  • The email contact created by the system automatically using the email address that you have signed-up with (see Contacts).

Your user profile, to be used as default selection in the time zone combo-boxes throughout your account whenever you need to select a time zone (in Contacts, Alerts or Maintenance).
Profile_Date_and_Time_The default time zone taken from your browser is also not an accurate one, so to enable DST adjustment you will need to change it to a more accurate time zone along with all the old time zones that you have previously set manually in Contacts, Alerts Rules and Maintenance.

In the Adjust Time Zones window, select a new accurate time zone for every shown old time zone by selecting it from the Select time zone combo box under the Accurate Time Zone column.

As soon as you select the new more accurate time zones for all old time zones, the Enable DST for all time zones checkbox will enable. Check the box to enable DST adjustment for all the new time zones that you have selected, or leave it unchecked if you do not want to enable it now.

If enabled, DST adjustment will apply to all time zones in your Monitis account.

Click Save when done.

Note that you must select new time zones for ALL the shown old time zones to be able to save the new time zones: unless you do that, the Save button will not enable.

Adjust_Time_Zones_Error

If you have enabled the DST adjustment feature by checking the Enable DST for all time zones box, all of the new time zones that you have selected which observe Daylight Saving Time will now be automatically shifted forward or backward twice a year.

If later on you want to disable DST adjustment for all time zones in your account, you can do that from your user profile.
