Alerting via VictorOps

Monitis provides seamless integration with VictorOps. With VictorOps integration, whenever a Monitis alert is triggered, it will automatically trigger an incident in VictorOps so that customers can take advantage of VictorOps’ on-call schedule management, escalation policies and incident notification system.
Monitis allows you configuring easily alerting via VictorOps for your monitors. Once configured, your Monitis alerts will be automatically passed to and handled by VictorOps, and you will start receiving alerts from VictorOps to your predefined VictorOps phone call, SMS, email or mobile app push notifications contacts, according to your VictorOps on-call duty schedule and the escalation path that you have built.

To set up VictorOps alerting in your Monitis account, you will need to integrate your Monitis account with your VictorOps account. Follow the instructions below to complete your setup in Monitis and VictorOps.

VictorOps Set-up

Complete the below steps in your VictorOps account.
Login to your VictorOps account.
If you are a new VictorOps user, click Complete setup on the top left corner of the page next to your company name.

Then click Integrations on the top of the page.

If you are an existing VictorOps user, go to Settings and click Integrations.

Select REST Endpoint from the integrations list.

Click Enable Integration.Enable Integration

Under Post URL, select the portion of the URL between “alert/” and “/$routing_key”, as shown on the below screen. This will be your API key. You will need it when setting up your VictorOps contact in your Monitis account.

To configure VictorOps alerting in your Monitis account, start by creating a new contact of VictorOps type in your Monitis dashboard.

Go to the Alerts menu and select Contacts.

The Contacts window will open.

Click the New Contact button. The Add Contact window will open.

Select VictorOps under Type.

You will see the Service API Key and Routing Key fields added in the window.

Enter the VictorOps Service API Key that you have copied in VictorOps (see above).

Enter the VictorOps Routing Key. Routing key is used by VictorOps for routing alerts to a specific team. You can set up routing keys for you teams in your VictorOps account by adding routing rules.

Note that the Routing Key parameter is optional. VictorOps will route the incidents that do not have any routing key assigned or it is unrecognized by VictorOps to either the default team or the team that you specify. For more details please refer to VictorOps support.

Click Add when done.
A new Monitis contact of “VictorOps” type has been added to your Monitis contact list.

When Monitis alerts will be triggered to your VictorOps contact, it will automatically pass them to VictorOps, and VictorOps will handle them in accordance with the escalation policy assigned to the service that you have created to handle Monitis alerts.

Note: Continuous alerting for a problem is not supported by VictorOps. In case you have enabled continuous alerting for your monitor in Monitis (see Adding Alert Rules), VictorOps will handle only the first problem alert (alerts will be sent to you by VictorOps according your predefined escalation policy), but the rest of the problem alerts can be viewed in VictorOps incident log.

When a problem recovers, VictorOps will automatically close the incident. Please note that VictorOps doesn’t trigger alerts on recovery, but you will be able to see the problem recovery event in VictorOps Incident History.
